Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Kano State governor, has sent birthday greetings to the current Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who he has politically mentored. Kwankwaso’s birthday message alluded to their “shared political journey.”

Kwankwaso’s message is especially noteworthy because it comes at a time of heightened political tension in Kano State, amid rumors that Governor Yusuf is planning to leave the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his message, Kwankwaso recalled the many years he and Yusuf have worked together, both at the State and Federal levels. He noted that Yusuf has served in various important positions, including as his Personal Assistant, Principal Private Assistant, and Commissioner. Kwankwaso also offered prayers for wisdom, good health, and clarity of purpose for the governor.

Kwankwaso has publicly refuted the reports of Yusuf’s planned defection, stating that he does not support realigning with the APC, where his former deputy and political rival, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, holds influence. As of now, Governor Yusuf has not released any formal statement addressing the rumors of his defection.
