President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to take immediate action to rescue the 25 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, located in the Danko-Wasagu area of Kebbi State.

The attack occurred early Monday morning, resulting in the death of Vice Principal Hassan Makuku and injuring security guard Ali Shehu, who sustained gunshot wounds to his right hand.

Kebbi police spokesperson Nafi’u Kotarkoshi confirmed that a manhunt for the attackers is underway. In a statement, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, condemned the attack and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting all Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren.

President Tinubu has emphasized that safeguarding every citizen is a fundamental responsibility of the State. The Minister stated: “The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials.”

Clear directives have been issued to security and intelligence agencies to locate and safely recover the abducted students, with a strong message that the perpetrators will face justice. Idris assured the public that internal security remains a top priority, highlighting ongoing efforts to recalibrate Nigeria’s military and policing capabilities.

The administration is also enhancing security cooperation through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to improve border security and combat criminal networks.
