The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed gratitude to Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Sokoto State Governor Almad Aliyu Sokoto for their visit to leader Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre. In a statement issued by spokesperson Emma Powerful, IPOB also acknowledged Hon. Aguocha and other concerned Igbo individuals for their support.

The statement praised the governors for their unexpected visit, highlighting Kanu’s status as a “prisoner of conscience.” It condemned the actions taken against Kanu, including what they described as his kidnapping, extraordinary rendition, and unlawful detention, asserting that these actions have caused immense injustice.

IPOB emphasized that Kanu’s transfer to Sokoto prison, amid ongoing insecurity, represents a grave provocation to both IPOB and the Igbo community. The group declared that Kanu did not commit any crimes recognized by local or international law and criticized the legal proceedings against him as politically motivated.

The statement warned the Nigerian government against underestimating Kanu’s influence and reiterated that he is supported by a significant portion of the Igbo population. IPOB reaffirmed its commitment to a non-violent, self-determination movement while urging the government to ensure Kanu’s safety in detention.
