President Bola Tinubu has highlighted insecurity as the most pressing issue facing Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region. Speaking in Kaduna, Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for rebuilding trust, strengthening unity, and restoring safety within communities.
Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, the president addressed attendees at the 25th anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the launch of its Endowment Fund. He stated that decisive actions must be taken to address insecurity to prevent economic decline and setbacks in education.
“Nothing troubles me more gravely than the security crisis bedeviling Nigeria, especially Northern Nigeria,” Tinubu remarked. He noted that his administration inherited complex security challenges but is committed to addressing them with urgency and determination.
The president assured that efforts are underway to eliminate terrorist and bandit groups in the North and to reverse the region’s economic struggles. He expressed optimism for Northern Nigeria’s economic future, anticipating a boost with oil production from new fields like Kolmani.
Tinubu called on leaders to voice their concerns sincerely and courageously, asserting that real progress is unattainable if vulnerable communities are not protected. He warned against complacency, stating, “We fail the day we sleep comfortably while millions sleep with empty bellies.”
He praised the ACF for its role in advocating for dignity, fairness, and equality over its 25-year history and urged leaders from all sectors to recommit to the values that founded the forum, emphasizing that peace and stability in the North are vital for Nigeria’s overall development.
