Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has stated that he is not desperate for a ‘free ticket’ or ‘special treatment’ as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. His comments come in response to recent discussions within the party regarding potential candidates for the upcoming elections.

Obi’s media aide, Ibrahim Umar, clarified that the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, had denied any plans to field Obi alongside other notable candidates, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti. This rebuttal emerged after factional statements suggested that the party might nominate Obi to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Umar emphasized that Obi remains focused on promoting democracy and healthy competition, rather than seeking preferential treatment. He stated, “Peter Obi has never sought a free ticket or special treatment… Our principal’s actions and decisions will continue to be driven by these values.”

Obi’s commitment to good governance, economic growth, and social justice remains steadfast, urging supporters to concentrate on significant issues rather than being distracted by unfounded narratives. He is determined to maintain a level playing field for all candidates in the political arena.
