The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has reiterated its call for President Bola Tinubu to promptly reinstate Siminilayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State to ensure effective governance.

IYC President, Dr. Theophilus Alaye, made this statement yesterday in Port Harcourt during the 57th Adaka Boro Day celebration, themed “Ijaw Nation Strength: A Pathway for Unity and Solidarity.” He emphasized that the people of Rivers State deserve lawful governance that delivers the necessary benefits of democracy and supports ongoing, people-oriented development.

The council also urged the removal of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), arguing that this change would expedite the implementation of impactful projects that directly benefit oil-producing communities.

Additionally, the IYC called for an increase in the annual budget allocation for the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) to ensure its objectives are fully met. They noted that the PAP has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and rehabilitating ex-agitators in the Niger Delta, but current funding levels are insufficient to address the growing needs for reintegration, educational training, and empowerment of beneficiaries.

The IYC further demanded more job opportunities for agitators in the Niger Delta, particularly within the Ijaw community, as part of efforts to sustain peace in the region. They highlighted that the East-West Road is vital for the economy of the Niger Delta and the entire South-South region, stating that its incomplete state continues to jeopardize lives and hinder development.
