Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that he was never truly a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite recently leaving the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara made these remarks while addressing journalists after a meeting with the APC National Working Committee in Abuja.

According to Fubara, he never felt fully integrated into the PDP and bore the brunt of its internal crisis. He characterized his involvement with the PDP as being “at the balcony” rather than “inside the house.” Fubara stated that joining the APC would allow him to provide leadership and direction for the party in Rivers State, promoting unity and political consolidation before future elections.

Fubara pledged Rivers State’s full political support to President Bola Tinubu, describing his move to the APC as both natural and overdue. He also stated that he could not belong to a house without understanding how it is arranged, and his visit to the APC headquarters was to familiarize himself with the party’s members and operations.

The APC leadership, represented by national secretary Ajibola Basiru, welcomed Fubara’s defection, stating it would significantly boost the APC’s dominance in the South-South region. Basiru added that Tinubu’s leadership had positioned the party for victory in 2027.
