Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has clarified that he did not abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adeleke expressed his love for the PDP but noted that ongoing crises within the party necessitated his shift to a more stable platform for the upcoming August 2026 election.
Now the official candidate of the Accord Party, Adeleke explained that despite his efforts to resolve the internal issues within the PDP, the situation continued to deteriorate. “I love PDP, but with all the crises going on… I had to make a decision,” he stated, emphasizing the need to protect both himself and the work being done in Osun State.
Adeleke maintains confidence that personal performance will outweigh party affiliation in the upcoming election. “Osun people are wise—they don’t judge you based on your party; they judge the person,” he remarked, highlighting his track record over the past three years as a key factor in the voters’ decisions.
After weeks of consultations with stakeholders, Adeleke officially joined the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, and a day after announcing his defection, he was confirmed as the party’s sole governorship candidate for the 2026 election. The party’s Chairman of the Screening Committee confirmed that Adeleke met all nomination requirements.
