The Untold Story of a Loyal APC Foot Soldier Now Abandoned

By Governance Today Nigeria | Human Angle Report

In the rough and tumble of Nigerian politics, loyalty is often celebrated in speeches — but rarely rewarded in reality.

For Barrister Pastor Charles Nkanang, loyalty has come at a devastating personal cost.

An indigene of Akwa Ibom State, Nkanang is not a stranger to public service. His political journey spans over a decade. He served as a Transition Committee Member in his Local Government Area in 2011. In 2014, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters. Between 2015 and 2019, he worked as Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects and also handled Chieftaincy Affairs.

By 2022, his political experience and legal background earned him an appointment as a Legal Officer at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), located at 40 Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

It was a moment of pride — a reward, he believed, for years of dedication to party ideals.

But that pride would soon turn to pain.A Booklet of Conviction — and Consequence

As the 2022 presidential primaries approached, Barrister Nkanang said he felt morally compelled to act. A staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he authored and published a booklet titled:

“101 Reasons Why Our Party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Should Nominate Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Party Presidential Flag-Bearer.”

To him, it was not rebellion. It was not factional politics. It was conviction. He believed he was defending what he saw as the best path forward for the party.

But according to his account, barely a month after printing and distributing the booklet — in April 2022 — his salary was abruptly stopped. No formal query. No official explanation. No disciplinary hearing.

At the time, the party was under the leadership of Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman. From that moment, Nkanang says his life began to unravel.

“I Lost Everything” What began as an administrative action soon became a personal crisis.Months turned into years.  Without income, stability slipped away. Financial strain mounted. Relationships suffered. Reputation bruised. Today, he says, he faces public ridicule — mocked for supporting a cause that, in his words, “has now left me stranded.”

His story raises uncomfortable questions within party politics: What becomes of grassroots loyalists after elections are won? Does conviction have consequences in Nigeria’s political system?

Are foot soldiers disposable once victory is secured?A Direct Appeal to the President

Now, Barrister Pastor Charles Nkanang is making a public plea to the man he passionately supported — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He describes the President as compassionate, liberal in spirit, and known for lifting others into relevance. He believes the same leader he defended in print will not ignore his cry.

“My condition is precarious,” he says. “I only stood for what I believed was right for our party.”His appeal is not just for reinstatement or compensation — but for recognition, justice, and restoration of dignity.

The Human Cost of Political Loyalty ,In every political movement, there are headline figures and there are hidden figures. The leaders on podiums — and the men behind the pamphlets.

Barrister Nkanang represents the latter. His story is a sobering reminder that beyond party slogans and primary elections are real human lives — families, reputations, and futures that hang in the balance of political decisions. As Nigeria continues to navigate its democratic journey, one question lingers:

Will loyalty continue to be currency without value?

As the 2027 election draws closer, Nigerians are watching with keen interest to see what will become of Barr. Nkanang, who lost everything for speaking and writing out in 2022 that President Tinubu is the best among the rest and should be given the presidential ticket of the APC.

Nigerians are angry over the unjust treatment of this man, and they are calling on the Presidency to act swiftly in compensating him so as not to discourage the broad mass of APC supporters from backing the party in the presidential election.

When the Presidency and the APC government act quickly in giving this man a presidential handshake, it will be the only way to prove to Nigerians and the electorate that their loyalty and support will not be wasted.

Governance Today Nigeria will continue to monitor this developing human-interest story.
