In a decisive move to address Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has established a sub-committee to collaborate directly with heads of security agencies. This initiative endorses a new technology-driven strategy presented by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa.

The resolution followed a late-night meeting of the Forum in Abuja, with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State reading the communiqué early Thursday. The communiqué was signed by NGF Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State.

Uzodinma highlighted that the governors were impressed by the technology-driven solutions proposed by the CDS, aimed at enhancing national and sub-national capacities for early threat detection and coordinated response. The initiative envisions the phased deployment of advanced technology and infrastructure to improve surveillance and public safety.

The Forum also received presentations on various initiatives, including a proposal for a strategic partnership with Powercom Smart Grid Nigeria Limited (PSGN) to revitalize the electricity distribution sector through private investments. Additionally, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, spoke about land reform to unlock economic potential.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State commented on the recent violence, asserting that the security challenges should not solely be blamed on governors, as they have limited constitutional roles in addressing these issues. He emphasized the need for collaboration among all stakeholders, including security agencies, to effectively tackle insecurity.

The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working with the military and other security agencies to implement these innovative measures and improve the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
