Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State has raised serious concerns about escalating insecurity, revealing that bandits have overrun 64 communities in the state. In an interview with Channels Television, he attributed the chaos to unidentified terrorist groups and alleged that these attacks are being financed by unknown sponsors.

Muftwang described the situation as a form of genocide, asking security agencies to investigate the origins of these terrorist activities. He emphasized that the ongoing violence is not an isolated issue but part of a systematic effort to displace communities.

He noted that many of the recently attacked areas had previously endured violence but had managed to rebuild. The governor highlighted the resilience of the Ruwi community, which lost 17 people in 2023 yet persevered.

Currently, he reported that bandits have taken control of areas across the Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom Local Governments, where they have forcibly displaced residents and claimed the land.

Muftwang insisted that the state is facing a deeper crisis than mere farmer-herder conflicts, calling it organized crime aimed at destabilizing Plateau State. He expressed confidence that with collective efforts, the security agencies would gather the intelligence needed to address this pressing issue.

The governor reassured citizens that despite the challenges, they would ultimately prevail against these threats.
