Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has disclosed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) urged him to run for the Edo Central Senatorial seat in the 2023 general elections, despite his initial hesitance towards politics.

At a recent event, Okpebholo recounted how he was convinced to enter the race due to a lack of other candidates within the party. “I have never been interested in politics,” he admitted, emphasizing his desire to see development in his region as the primary motivation for his candidacy.

He shared that three party stakeholders came to his home to encourage him to contest, highlighting the unexpected nature of his political journey. “That rejected stone—today, everybody is turning to APC,” he noted, reflecting on the changing political landscape.

Looking forward, Okpebholo forecasted significant political shifts in the South-South region, suggesting that more individuals will align with the federal government’s development initiatives. He stated, “Very soon, there will be wings flying left and right. People will be moving, cross-carpeting.”
