The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing security around schools and safeguarding the welfare of students and citizens nationwide. This announcement came from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, during a visit to Niger State Governor Umaru Bago.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, Idris described the recent rescue of some abducted students from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Niger as a significant relief for the nation and the families involved. He praised the collaborative efforts of security agencies, the swift response of the Niger State Government, and support from local communities that led to this successful rescue.
Idris emphasized that the protection and welfare of Nigerian children are central priorities for the Federal Government, stating, “Our children must be able to learn safely.” He also reiterated the administration’s dedication to working closely with state governments to improve school security and ensure such incidents do not disrupt the peace of the country.
Governor Bago expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and acknowledged the contributions of security agencies and local communities in securing the students’ release. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with the Federal Government on security and social stability initiatives.
