The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed as false the rumours suggesting his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party.
He described the claims as “fake news” and vowed to take legal action against those spreading the misinformation.
El-Rufai addressed the issue via his verified X account, urging the public to disregard the reports. He stated, “Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”
An aide to El-Rufai, speaking on condition of anonymity, also refuted the rumours, labeling them the work of mischief-makers. “The report is false. The former governor did not join PDP or any other party,” the aide said.
The rumours gained traction online, with some platforms and social media users alleging that El-Rufai had joined the PDP and obtained a membership card from Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna North Local Government Area, purportedly to contest the presidential election in 2027.
However, these claims have been categorically denied.El-Rufai remains a prominent figure within the APC, and his aide stressed that the former governor has no intention of defecting to another political party.
