February 11, 2025 – Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has claimed that his political opponents are planning to arrest, detain, and torture him at the National Security Adviser’s office, similar to the alleged treatment of former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele. Despite these threats, El-Rufai asserts he will not be intimidated.

Responding to a warning from an X user about potential arrest upon his return to Nigeria, El-Rufai stated, “I have been hearing these same rumors of arrest, detention and torture since July 2024.” He expressed determination to return to Nigeria, putting aside his academic pursuits to confront his adversaries.

El-Rufai highlighted that threats have been directed not only at him but also at his friends and family, indicating an orchestrated effort to force him into self-exile. He described the situation as a continuation of intimidation tactics against perceived political enemies.

In a recent social media post, he reaffirmed his commitment to remain in Nigeria and engage with the political landscape, stating, “Silence is no longer golden. Inaction has never been an option.” He plans to attend the launch of former President IBB’s memoirs on February 20.

El-Rufai’s comments come amid ongoing tensions with the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, following conflicting statements regarding past accusations of corruption against President Bola Tinubu. The political discourse continues to heat up as both sides exchange allegations and defend their positions.
