The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Mr. Eugene Inegbeboh (PDP, Igueben) as the new Minority Whip, following the defection of the former occupant of the position, Mr. Yekini Idiaye (Akoko-Edo I), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made after the Speaker, Mr. Blessing Agbebaku, read a letter from the state PDP chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, nominating Inegbeboh for the role. However, the nomination sparked a heated debate when Mr. Addeh Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I) challenged its legitimacy, citing a court case contesting Aziegbemi’s leadership of the party.

The objection was swiftly rebutted by Minority Leader Charity Aiguobarueghian, who dismissed Isibor’s claim as unfounded. In response to the commotion, Speaker Agbebaku intervened, reminding the House that internal party matters were outside its jurisdiction and urging members to focus on legislative duties.

In other proceedings, the House passed a bill to establish the Edo State Public-Private Partnership Agency, aimed at boosting infrastructural development across the state.
