The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed Julius Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), maintaining the validity of its earlier order. In a ruling on Friday, Justice Hamma Barka stated that the November 13, 2024 judgment, which recognized Abure as the legitimate chairman, remains in effect.

The ruling came during the consideration of two appeals: CA/ABJ/CV/1271/2024, filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and another party, and CA/ABJ/1232/2024, lodged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others, with the LP as a respondent. These appeals contested the October 8, 2024 judgment by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, which had ordered INEC to recognize and engage with Abure’s leadership.

Justice Barka concluded that Justice Nwite had erred in assuming jurisdiction over the matter concerning the LP’s leadership.
