An Oyo State High Court has officially authorized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its Elective National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba.
The ruling was delivered by Justice A. L. Akintola in response to a suit filed by aspirant Folahan Malamo Adelabi, who sought to ensure adherence to the party’s established guidelines for the convention. The court’s decision prevents the PDP and its representatives from interfering with the convention’s timetable and processes.
In a significant directive aimed at ensuring transparency, the court mandated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deploy monitors and observers to oversee the proceedings, in line with electoral regulations. Justice Akintola also instructed the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to continue preparations without hindrance.
With this judgment, all prior legal challenges that threatened the PDP’s convention have been resolved, allowing the NCOC to finalize arrangements for over 3,000 delegates, including governors and National Assembly members, from across the country and the Federal Capital Territory. This development is a crucial step for the PDP as it prepares for a significant gathering that could shape its future direction and leadership.
