The Edo State Government has presented its 2026 Appropriation Bill, aimed at accelerating infrastructure renewal, expanding employment opportunities, and enhancing social services. The budget, totaling ₦939.85 billion, was defended by Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, highlighting its alignment with the “SHINE Agenda” of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Okoebor emphasized that the budget represents a shift from traditional fiscal planning to an impact-driven approach, focusing on sectors that can boost productivity and reduce inequality. Key allocations include ₦420.62 billion for infrastructure, with over ₦305 billion dedicated to road construction and rehabilitation—a move intended to improve accessibility and support healthcare and education, particularly in rural areas.

The budget also allocates ₦68 billion for agriculture, aimed at ensuring food security and stability, while another ₦116.46 billion is earmarked for job creation through various employment-related programmes. Additionally, ₦8.9 billion is set aside for social welfare initiatives targeting women, youths, and vulnerable populations.

Okoebor noted that the budget emphasizes capital expenditure, which constitutes 68% of the total budget, signifying a commitment to significant infrastructure projects. The funding will come from multiple sources, including internally generated revenue and disbursements from the Federation Account.

The Commissioner assured that the fiscal plan is designed to deliver meaningful outcomes, including completed infrastructure projects, job creation, and improved public services, which he described as the essence of the “Budget of Hope and Growth.”
