The Coalition for Democracy and Development (CDD) has issued a stern warning to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging them to resolve their differences and sign a new peace pact within the next 90 days. The coalition condemned the actions of both leaders, stating that their focus on personal interests has overshadowed the welfare of the people during a time of escalating political crisis in Rivers State.
The crisis has intensified following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency, which included the suspension of Governor Fubara and other elected officials. Despite a previous peace pact signed in December 2023, tensions have continued to rise.
In a statement signed by Dr. George Ifure, the CDD emphasized that the ongoing turmoil reflects a failure of leadership from both Wike and Fubara. They warned that the public is prepared to hold both accountable if a peace agreement is not reached within the specified timeframe.
To facilitate a resolution, the coalition is calling on President Tinubu and the National Assembly to form a committee of eminent Nigerians who can mediate and help find a lasting solution. They urged all stakeholders to prioritize the interests of the people and work towards a peaceful and democratic resolution to restore stability in Rivers State.
The CDD concluded its statement by urging Wike and Fubara to embrace peace and take immediate action to resolve the crisis, highlighting the importance of restoring democratic governance in the region.
