The Senate’s Tuesday plenary session was interrupted by a chaotic session as senators squabbled over seats.

The Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, read out statements following the procession, which began at approximately 11:00 a.m. The announcements included the names of the MPs who had celebrated their birthdays during the Senate’s recess.

Senator Sahabi Yau (APC, Zamfara North) began to yell at Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) during the announcement. Bamidele responded by pointing his finger at Yau, seemingly as a warning.

The chairman of Senate Services, Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West), who was in charge of seating arrangements, as well as Bamidele were immediately yelled at by Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) and his colleague Yau.
The sitting configuration in the recently remodelled hallow chamber, according to information obtained by GTN, set off the conflict.

The seats assigned to them in the front row on the far right side of the aisle reportedly infuriated a few senior senators.
Yau refused to comply with the Senate President’s order to approach the chair one by one.
The Senators quarrelled during the boisterous 20-minute session.

After that, at approximately 12:05 p.m., the Senate decided to hold an executive session. The Senate had on March 20, adjourned plenary till April 16, but postponed resumption twice to allow for the completion of the chamber which had been under renovation since 2022.
