Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally joined the Accord Party, ending weeks of speculation following his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday at the Government House Banquet Hall, where he received the Accord Party flag in the presence of top national and state leaders. Adeleke confirmed that he actually registered with the party over a month ago, on November 6, after “extensive consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”
Speaking during the declaration, Adeleke said he would seek re-election in 2026 on the Accord platform, noting that the party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on improving workers’ welfare, expanding social services, and delivering infrastructure across Osun.
He stated that his move was driven by the need to consolidate ongoing development projects and ensure continuity in governance, adding that residents across the state have shown strong support for his second-term ambition.
Adeleke emphasized that Accord offers the “united front” needed ahead of the 2026 elections, saying the party is now positioned to “take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance.”
The governor’s defection follows his resignation from the PDP on December 1, which he attributed to unresolved leadership crises at the party’s national level. He disclosed that his resignation letter had earlier been submitted to party officials in his ward in Ede North Local Government Area.
Adeleke thanked PDP members for past support but maintained that Accord now provides the platform for the next phase of his political journey.
