Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, has died after collapsing in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Thursday.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. during official duties. According to government sources, the Deputy Governor suddenly slumped and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for emergency treatment. Medical personnel were said to have battled to revive him but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
He was 60 years old.
Details surrounding the cause of the collapse remain unclear, as officials have not yet disclosed any medical explanation. Attempts to reach the hospital’s Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
A press aide to the late Deputy Governor confirmed the development but declined to provide further information, saying an official statement would be issued later.
Ewhrudjakpo’s death comes weeks after his notable absence during Governor Douye Diri’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, a development that had raised political questions within the state.
