Following recent kidnap incidents affecting schoolchildren in Nigeria, the Benue State Police Command has reassured the public that schools in the state are secure. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emenari Ifeanyi, confirmed this on Friday, stating that security measures have been enhanced in and around educational institutions.

Ifeanyi mentioned that the Police have established a Schools Protection Squad (SPS) and have deployed personnel to various schools, particularly girls’ schools, to ensure safety. In line with instructions from the Inspector General of Police, all schools and worship centers are to be adequately secured.

He elaborated, “We have made provisions for permanent security personnel at public schools and routine patrols in other schools. We’ve also organized training programs for teachers and students on safety procedures.”

With the holiday season approaching, the Police have implemented proactive measures to maintain safety throughout the festivities. Additional security teams have been stationed in vulnerable areas, and the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities.

Ifeanyi concluded with a call for cooperation between the police and the community: “We are working closely with other security agencies to ensure that crime does not mar the festive season.”
