The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded sharply to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, accusing him and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of diverting attention from the party’s failures. This comes after Oshiomhole labeled Atiku a “defection expert” following his registration with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku, the response criticized Oshiomhole’s moral authority to question Atiku’s leadership, urging him to reflect on the current state of the APC. Shaibu described Oshiomhole’s comments as a “tired distraction,” asserting that the APC has failed the nation.

The statement highlighted Atiku’s contributions as Vice President, noting his role in rebuilding investor confidence and initiating economic reforms that helped reshape Nigeria’s economy. Shaibu argued that Atiku’s governance style contrasts sharply with the APC’s, which he claimed has turned party politics into a tool for personal control.

Shaibu also challenged Oshiomhole’s authority to criticize Atiku, saying, “If the APC could not fix Nigeria after eight wasted years, what moral authority does Oshiomhole have?” He concluded by stating that Oshiomhole embodies a party that has failed to meet the hopes of the Nigerian people.

Atiku Abubakar’s camp is making a case for a leadership vision that emphasizes experience and capacity in contrast to the criticisms they claim to be mere noise and propaganda from Oshiomhole and the APC. They are rallying support by presenting Atiku as a capable leader ready to address the pressing issues facing Nigeria, and they are calling on the public to focus on substantial governance rather than political theatrics.
