Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government and political leaders to urgently address the escalating violence in Benue State, describing the situation as having reached an “unbearable crescendo.”
In a statement released via X, Atiku criticized the continued silence of authorities in the face of the “brutal and heart-wrenching reality” in Benue and other regions affected by violence. He highlighted the devastation families have faced, noting that many have buried their loved ones in silence while communities have been shattered.
Atiku condemned the state’s response to public protests over the killings, stating that using force against demonstrators is a betrayal of leadership. He emphasized that citizens protesting injustice are not inciting rebellion but are seeking help.
He urged leaders at all levels to prioritize human lives over political considerations, warning that history will judge those who prioritize power over people. Atiku called for a comprehensive security strategy and better coordination with security agencies to protect lives and restore peace in Benue and other troubled regions.
He encouraged the public to raise their voices, demand accountability, and seek a government that truly represents and protects them.
