The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima might be replaced as Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the forthcoming 2027 elections.

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka addressed the issue during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Monitored by Governance Today Nigeria. He emphasized that, the party is focusing on governance rather than engaging in premature election speculations, which he characterized as “mischievous.”

Morka stated that attempts to spread rumors about the potential replacement of Shettima are baseless and merely designed to create confusion within the political landscape. He reiterated, “There is no fact to it,” highlighting that electoral activities are currently prohibited by law.

Responding to concerns about religious inclusivity within the party, Morka assured that the APC is committed to representing all Nigerians. He maintained that discussions about the Vice President’s position are not relevant at this time, asserting the party’s ability to address such matters in due course.

Despite official denials from the APC leadership, rumors regarding Shettima’s potential removal have circulated since mid-2025. Tensions reached a peak during an APC North-East stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe, where Shettima was notably excluded from endorsements for Tinubu’s second term.

Morka’s statements aim to refocus attention on the APC’s governance efforts amidst ongoing speculation about the party’s leadership dynamics, as they prepare for future electoral contests.
