The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party. This announcement was made by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

Yilwatda, who is from Plateau State, noted that this development means all states in the North Central geopolitical zone are now governed by the APC. President Bola Tinubu presided over the meeting, which started with his arrival at 7:38 pm.

Prior to the defection, Mutfwang’s political adviser, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat, indicated that the governor’s decision was driven by internal crises within the PDP. Nwansat described joining the APC as the “safest option” amid ongoing instability within the PDP, aligning Plateau State with President Tinubu’s governance agenda.

The announcement comes weeks after a coalition of PDP members from Plateau State’s 17 local government areas held a rally in Jos, urging Mutfwang to defect to the APC. The rally’s leader, Mr. Christopher Danjem, stated that aligning the governor with the APC would aid in attracting more federal projects to the state, highlighting the Federal Government’s responsiveness to security challenges in Plateau.

Danjem characterized Mutfwang as a committed performer, advocating for his alignment with the Federal Government to strengthen cooperation and enhance development efforts in the state.
