The Confederation of African Football has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct by players and officials during the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals involving Cameroon vs Morocco and Algeria vs Nigeria.
CAF received reports of confrontations with referees and disruptions in post-match areas and has referred the cases to its Disciplinary Board for review.
In the Nigeria vs Algeria match, Nigeria won 2-0 with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, but the match ended in chaos after Algerian players confronted referees, leading to scuffles and a prevented pitch invasion. The Algerian Football Federation lodged a formal complaint over controversial decisions by referee Issa Sy.
Morocco defeated Cameroon 2-0, with Cameroon disputing two potential penalties involving defender Adam Masina. Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui dismissed claims of home-team bias.
CAF emphasized its commitment to professional conduct and warned that appropriate actions would be taken against anyone found guilty of misconduct, including incidents involving media personnel.
