The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is intensifying efforts to broaden its political reach ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party is calling on prominent political figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, to join its ranks.

This appeal follows the inauguration of the ADC’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee, a move aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures and promoting democracy within. Nafiu Gombe, the factional National Chairman of the ADC, made this announcement in a communiqué after the inauguration ceremony held in Gombe State on January 11.

Gombe described the event as a pivotal step in consolidating the party’s presence in the North-East and ensuring credible congresses. Key officials overseeing the zonal congress process were ratified at the ceremony, with Mrs. Patience Alex appointed as Chairperson of the North-East Zonal Congress Committee.

The party is seeking to unite various political factions and inviting current governors and national leaders, including Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, to contribute their experience to the ADC’s mission of national redevelopment.

As the party positions itself as a viable alternative force in Nigeria’s political landscape, it aims to mobilize support across various regions for a platform focused on accountability and sustainable development. The ADC’s move comes in the wake of recent political realignments, especially following the defection of Labour Party’s former presidential candidate Peter Obi to the ADC.
