Hon. Ebere Uzoukwa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Abia State Governor, has accused Barrister Julius Abure of clinging to power illegally as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), despite the expiration of his four-year tenure and a Supreme Court ruling that declared him no longer in office.
In an interview in Umuahia, Uzoukwa alleged that Abure’s continued grip on the LP is driven by plans to use the party for the benefit of political sponsors ahead of the 2027 general elections. He described Abure’s leadership as characterized by controversy, propaganda, and disregard for party rules, which he claims has left the LP in disarray.
Uzoukwa expressed disbelief that a legal practitioner like Abure would openly defy the Supreme Court’s ruling. He also criticized what he called Abure’s “laughable” attempt to suspend Abia State Governor Alex Otti LP’s only sitting governor citing it as revenge for Otti’s role in efforts to “rescue” the party from Abure’s control.
“Abure is acting like a desperate clown clinging to a crown he no longer deserves,” Uzoukwa said, accusing the former chairman of fostering chaos and manipulating party mechanisms to maintain control.
He praised the formation of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee, which has invited Abure to answer for his actions, and called on the Inspector General of Police to arrest Abure for impersonation. He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce the Supreme Court’s judgment.
Uzoukwa further applauded Governor Otti for his leadership and emphasized that the LP’s revival under the Caretaker Committee was restoring hope and integrity to the party.
