The Abuja Muslim Forum, representing various Muslim organizations in the capital, has called on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to intervene in the planned disruption of water supply during the upcoming Eid celebrations. The FCT authorities recently announced an upgrade to the water supply system that may lead to interruptions lasting up to two weeks.

In a statement, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Ajani, the Ameer of the forum, expressed concerns that the timing of the upgrade could pose serious health risks, especially during Eid al-Adha, when water usage is particularly high. He commended Wike for his efforts to improve the capital but suggested that the upgrade be postponed until after the festivities.

The statement read, “We appeal to the Honourable minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to kindly intervene and reconsider the interruptions of water supply during the Eid Kabir celebrations to reduce the discomfort and likely health hazards that may arise.”

Ajani emphasized that the upgrade coinciding with a peak period of Islamic festivities could potentially lead to a public health crisis. He urged the minister to defer the maintenance work until after the celebrations, assuring that the negative impacts would be minimized.

The forum’s appeal highlights the importance of reliable water supply during significant cultural events, as they seek to ensure the well-being of the community during the festivities.
