Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have rearrested former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), shortly after his release from Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.

Malami had just completed bail formalities in a separate money-laundering case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in which he, alongside his wife and son, was granted bail. Moments after exiting the prison facility, DSS operatives intercepted him and escorted him away.

Security sources disclosed that the rearrest is connected to allegations of terrorism financing, as well as the reported discovery of arms and ammunition at Malami’s residence in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The sources explained that the matter falls within the statutory mandate of the DSS, which handles issues relating to national security, distinct from the EFCC’s jurisdiction.

The development marks a significant escalation in the legal troubles facing the former Attorney-General, as investigations by the DSS are said to be ongoing.
