Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for claiming that President Bola Tinubu has abandoned governance by spending extended periods abroad. Omokri’s response followed Obi’s post on X, where he questioned the President’s location and labeled his prolonged absence as neglect of governance.

In his rebuttal, Omokri accused Obi of misleading Nigerians and asserted that the President’s location and activities have been clearly communicated. He stated that Tinubu is currently in Abu Dhabi attending the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Omokri dismissed Obi’s claim that Nigerians had not heard from the President since December 2025, pointing out that Tinubu addressed the nation in a New Year’s broadcast and had engaged in several public activities in late December.

Omokri highlighted that the President visited various states, including attending a wedding in Borno and offering condolences in Bauchi. He suggested that describing these engagements as neglect was dishonest and reflected a misunderstanding of governance and international diplomacy.

Further defending Tinubu, Omokri contrasted his foreign trips with those of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who spent a significant portion of his presidency abroad. He argued that no president could attract foreign investment by remaining in the country, citing Tinubu’s attendance at international summits that resulted in substantial investments for Nigeria.

Omokri concluded by stating that Obi’s lack of awareness about these achievements proved he was unfit to lead Nigeria, labeling him a trader rather than a leader and implying he would be better suited to operate a market stall.”
