The Kebbi State Government has announced the reopening of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, effective January 5, 2026. This directive was issued through statements signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director (Academics) of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa.

This decision follows the temporary closure of schools after the abduction of 25 students in Zuru by armed men believed to be bandits. The government underscores its commitment to maintaining a stable and uninterrupted academic calendar after completing the first term of the session.

In their statements, officials urged all school administrators, education secretaries, principals, teachers, parents, and students to adhere strictly to the directive. Preparations for resumption must be made to ensure a smooth start to academic activities across schools in both urban and rural areas.

Moreover, school heads were instructed to implement necessary measures, including staff readiness, while parents were advised to ensure that their children return to school on time. The statements highlighted the vital role of parental cooperation in achieving the goals of the resumption directive, as punctual attendance is essential for effective teaching and learning.

In a related circular, Zonal Education Officers and school administrators were informed that the first week of the second term would focus on conducting outstanding examinations from the first term. Regular academic activities are slated to commence on January 12, 2026, following the conclusion of these exams. The state government has emphasized the importance of adhering to the approved resumption timetable and examination schedule, and monitoring teams will be deployed to ensure compliance.

Education stakeholders have welcomed this timely directive, recognizing it as a necessary step to uphold academic discipline and improve learning outcomes throughout Kebbi State.
