Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of abusing power and weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the South-West region.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Fayose alleged that Makinde had sidelined party loyalists who played key roles in his emergence as governor, while consolidating power for personal interests.
According to Fayose, many PDP supporters who worked for Makinde’s political rise have been pushed aside, claiming that valuable lands in Oyo State have been taken over by the governor and his allies.
Fayose further accused Makinde of dismantling the PDP’s political structures across the South-West, arguing that the governor’s leadership style has caused deep divisions and disaffection within the party.
He also questioned the credibility of the PDP’s internal processes, particularly in Osun State, alleging that a governorship candidate emerged without purchasing the party’s nomination form, a situation he described as evidence of internal manipulation.
Recounting a personal experience, Fayose alleged that he was attacked during a political event in Osun State, blaming Governor Makinde for orchestrating the incident. He dismissed the Oyo governor’s political influence, describing him as inexperienced in political terms.
The former Ekiti governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid ongoing internal power struggles within the PDP, declaring that his political allegiance remains firmly with Wike.
Despite his criticisms, Fayose insisted that he remains a committed member of the PDP and ruled out any possibility of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reflecting on his political career, Fayose described himself as an elder statesman, stating that he won his governorship elections without the backing of political godfathers and has always maintained political independence.
