Kwara Explosion: Five Injured, Buildings Damaged as Probe Begins

An explosion occurred on Thursday night in Offa, Kwara State, damaging four buildings and injuring five people, including a couple and their young daughter. The incident took place along the Offa-Ijagbo road around 10 PM.

Eyewitness Victoria Macharty reported hearing unusual humming noises before objects fell onto her building. After the explosion, several items, including a small box and fragments of metal, were removed by an anti-bomb unit.

Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Olatunji Sulaiman, reassured the community that military personnel had assessed the situation. He clarified it was not a bomb explosion or plane crash and emphasized that ongoing investigations aim to determine the cause of the incident.

Kwara State Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo further added that the circumstances appeared to involve local ordinance issues, confirming that IED experts have cleared the debris. Authorities are focused on ensuring public safety and maintaining calm in the area.
