President Bola Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Musa, a seasoned and decorated military officer, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. This move comes after the resignation of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, citing health reasons.

Why General Musa?

General Musa brings a wealth of experience to the table. He served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025 and has held several key positions, including:
– Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai
– Commander, Nigerian Army Infantry Corps
– Commander, Sector 3, Operation Lafiya Dole
– Deputy Chief of Staff, Training/Operations, Infantry Centre and Corps

His impressive career spans over three decades, with notable achievements such as winning the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.

President Tinubu’s Confidence

In his letter to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed confidence in General Musa’s ability to lead the Ministry of Defence and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly amid escalating security challenges

The nomination has been met with praise from various quarters, including the Northwest APC National Vice Chairman, Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, who described it as a “perfect choice”.

Nigerians commend the Senate for swiftly confirming General Musa as the new defence minister.
