The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn police officers attached to private citizens nationwide, complying with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to address rising insecurity.
IGP Egbetokun confirmed the withdrawal at a meeting with strategic police officers in Abuja. The withdrawn personnel will be redeployed to various states to strengthen security. The withdrawal will be done in phases.
President Tinubu had ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) to restore the police to their core duties and improve their presence in communities grappling with insecurity. VIPs seeking armed security escorts must now apply to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
