A Kano State High Court has adjourned the trial of former governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and seven others to February 3, 2026, for the hearing of all pending motions.

The Kano State Government filed an 11-count charge against Ganduje and his wife, Hafsat Umar, alleging bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds totaling billions of naira. Other defendants include Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.

When the case resumed, the prosecution, represented by Mr. Jedidiah Akpata, informed the court that it was not ready to proceed and requested more time to respond to defendants’ motions. Akpata filed motions seeking extensions to respond to applications for stay of proceedings and preliminary objections filed by the defendants.

Counsel to Ganduje, his wife, and son, Mrs. Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, confirmed that the defence was ready to proceed but did not oppose the prosecution’s request. Similarly, legal teams for the other defendants confirmed their readiness, although some had previously filed applications for stays of proceedings before the Court of Appeal.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu granted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the case to February 3, 2026. The trial has experienced multiple adjournments on similar grounds in the past.
