Over Fifty of the over 300 children abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Schools in Niger State have successfully escaped their captors. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) announced the news on Sunday, revealing that the escapees reunited with their families between Friday and Saturday.

Daniel Atori, media aide to the CAN Chairman in Niger State, Most. Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, confirmed the details, indicating a verification process was conducted to ascertain the children’s whereabouts.

“We have received some good news as fifty pupils escaped and have reunited with their parents,” said Atori. The total number of pupils affected by the abduction now totals 303, including 12 teachers, with 141 students remaining unaccounted for.

The incident occurred when terrorists invaded the school, prompting widespread concern and calls for prayer for those still missing. Bishop Yohanna urged the community to remain calm as they work with security agencies to facilitate the safe return of all abducted students.

Addressing rumors about prior warnings regarding security threats, the Bishop refuted claims that the school had received any official notification, labeling such assertions as “propaganda.” He emphasized the school’s efforts to maintain safety in the face of rising insecurity.
