The suspended National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Mohammed Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman of the PDP. This move comes amidst escalating tensions within the party.
On November 1, 2025, Abdulrahman, supported by Anyanwu and other loyalists, took over the office of the suspended National Chairman, Umar Damagum, as chants of solidarity filled the air at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza.
Anyanwu, along with the PDP National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, had been suspended for a month by the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) due to alleged anti-party activities. In a swift counteraction, the Anyanwu-led faction convened in Abuja, announcing Damagum’s suspension and Abdulrahman’s appointment.
In his letter to INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, Anyanwu emphasized that Abdulrahman’s appointment aligns with the PDP’s constitution and urged prompt recognition of his new role.
