The Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, and Sen. Abdulaziz Yari for their support, claiming it has contributed to the decline of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

APC Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Idris, stated that the motivation and support from Matawalle and Yari have inspired many politicians to defect from the PDP to the APC. Recently, Hon. Maharazu Faru, a PDP member representing Maradun II in the State House of Assembly, officially joined the APC during a ceremony in Gusau, which was attended by party leaders and supporters.

Faru cited Governor Dauda Lawal’s failure to fulfill campaign promises as his reason for leaving the PDP. He expressed concerns over the lack of attention and fairness for his constituency, stating that the current administration has sidelined many constituents and favored a select few within the PDP.

Idris further noted that the PDP is facing internal crises, leading to a mass exodus of its members to the APC, with predictions of continued defections in the future. Alhaji Salisu Dodo, a PDP ex-officio, declared that the PDP is “dead” in Maradun II Constituency, criticizing the governor’s leadership and claiming that many party members feel abandoned.

The APC Chairman, Hon. Tukur Danfulani, welcomed the new members, assuring them they would be treated equally within the party. He attributed the APC’s growing strength to the efforts of its leaders, particularly Matawalle and Yari, and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming 2027 elections.
