Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is “long dead,” attributing the party’s decline to impunity, arrogance, and a lack of internal democracy among some governors.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja, Wike expressed that the ongoing exodus of party members was expected. He stated, “Everything I warned about has come to pass,” highlighting that the party’s internal issues are directly contributing to its downfall.

Wike criticized governors who once played significant roles in the party’s processes but are now leaving, calling it “embarrassing.” He emphasized that the PDP’s inability to manage its affairs would lead to its continued decline, particularly as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

He dismissed allegations that he is responsible for the party’s collapse, asserting that the issues within the PDP predate his involvement in the current administration. Wike also criticized the party’s leadership for failing to unite and prepare against the ruling APC, stating, “No opposition party carries on with such impunity.”

Additionally, Wike refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu had ordered him to suspend his monthly media chats, emphasizing his commitment to informing the public about activities in the FCT. He addressed speculations about his health, stating he has never been sick or flown abroad.

On reports of Tanimu Turaki being adopted as the PDP’s consensus national chairman, Wike distanced himself from the internal conflicts, asserting that the party’s problems stem from poor leadership decisions and a lack of inclusivity in meetings.

Wike concluded by underscoring his significant role in the PDP’s history and urged that his contributions should not be overlooked in decision-making processes.
