Former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, has officially withdrawn his representation of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This announcement was made during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu confirmed that he would now represent himself, rejecting an offer from the trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, to provide legal counsel. In his initial statement as his own lawyer, Kanu challenged the court’s jurisdiction regarding the seven terrorism-related charges filed against him by the Federal Government.

Kanu has filed a motion listing several high-profile individuals, including governors and ministers, as potential witnesses in his defense. He has requested a 90-day extension to present his case, citing the number and significance of the witnesses he wishes to call.

Notable figures he intends to summon include:

  • Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State
  • Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State
  • Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory
  • Former Attorney General Abubakar Malami
  • Retired General Tukur Buratai, among others.

Kanu aims to compel their attendance to establish his innocence regarding the charges against him. The motion is marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015 and was filed on October 21.
