The Senate has dismissed reports suggesting a clash between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele during a recent executive session. Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, described these claims as baseless and misleading.

In a statement, Adaramodu clarified that the reports misrepresented standard legislative practices as signs of internal discord. He emphasized that robust debates are a hallmark of parliamentary democracy and should not be misconstrued as personal conflicts.

“Our attention has been drawn to diverse media reports claiming that President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, clashed during an executive session,” the statement read. Adaramodu affirmed that vigorous debate is essential in scrutinizing bills and proposals, which is in the interest of over 230 million Nigerians.

He reiterated that deliberations in the chamber or committee room should not be mistaken for altercations, nor do they indicate any rift within the Senate leadership.
