Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has publicly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing his leadership approach as autocratic and lacking in consultation. The tensions flared during an executive session on Wednesday, where discussions about the Senate’s upcoming legislative recess led to heated exchanges.

Sources indicate that the disagreement escalated when Senator Ali Ndume criticized the Senate leadership for not holding prior meetings to unify their stance on the adjournment plan. Bamidele echoed these frustrations, stating, “I am frustrated as Senate Leader working under Senate President Akpabio. He does not call leadership meetings, he doesn’t consult with anyone.”

Bamidele even expressed that he is considering resigning from his position due to the lack of collaboration within the leadership. Akpabio responded sharply, asserting his authority and experience, reminding Bamidele of his extensive background in governance and Senate rules.

The confrontation, which nearly turned physical, necessitated intervention from other Senators to restore order. This incident follows prior reports of tension between the two leaders, which had previously been dismissed as false.

As the internal dynamics of the Senate continue to unfold, the implications of this conflict may significantly affect legislative proceedings and party unity moving forward.
