In a determined effort to stamp out terrorism along Nigeria’s northeastern corridor, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized 10 Boko Haram insurgents in a fierce gun battle near the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
The confrontation occurred along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala axis, a notorious hotspot for insurgent activity within the Lake Chad Basin. According to military sources, the operation was based on actionable intelligence pointing to the presence of terrorists regrouping in the area.
Heavily armed Nigerian troops, operating alongside the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and local Hybrid Forces, stormed the hideouts in a coordinated assault. The ensuing exchange of fire led to the death of 10 Boko Haram fighters and the recovery of a cache of arms, including anti-aircraft rounds and other combat-grade ammunition.
Major General Markus Kangye, military spokesman for the operation, confirmed the incident, noting that the terrorists were overwhelmed by superior firepower. He added that the raid was part of a wider military strategy to secure the southern Lake Chad region and shut down cross-border insurgent movements.
“This successful engagement not only disrupted Boko Haram’s operations in the axis but also sent a clear message that the days of hiding in border enclaves are numbered,” Kangye said.
Troops have since intensified mop-up operations in the area, searching for any escaping militants and combing nearby settlements for additional weapons stockpiles.
The offensive comes as Nigeria’s armed forces ramp up counterterrorism efforts in response to sporadic attacks on civilian and security targets in the northeast. Military authorities maintain that sustained pressure on terrorist hideouts remains key to degrading insurgent capabilities.
