INEC Receives 110 Applications for New Political Parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the receipt of letters of intent from 110 associations seeking registration as political parties.

During a consultative meeting with media executives at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated that the commission is processing these requests in accordance with legal procedures and its regulations. He noted that all applications have been acknowledged, except for six recently submitted, which will be addressed by the end of the week.

Yakubu emphasized the importance of transparency, informing Nigerians that the handbook outlining the regulations for political parties is available on the INEC website. He also mentioned that a full list of the 110 associations, including their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their interim chairpersons and secretaries, will be published online and shared via social media.
