The Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, has asserted that recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not hinder Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of winning re-election in 2026. He described the defections as “a storm in a teacup,” emphasizing that support for Adeleke remains strong across various sectors of society.
Bisi’s comments come amid concerns that the departure of several PDP members, including House of Representatives member Wole Oke and former senator Felix Ogunwale, could jeopardize the governor’s bid. Despite these defections, which have drawn attention, Bisi remains confident that Adeleke will secure widespread voter support in the next election.
The PDP chairman highlighted that the governor has been delivering effective governance through infrastructure and social programs, reinforcing his belief that the electorate will reward Adeleke for his performance. He dismissed the impact of the defections, comparing them unfavorably to the significant political shifts seen in other states, such as Delta.
In light of the current political climate, Bisi expressed optimism about Adeleke’s prospects, stating that the majority of the state’s population backs the governor’s re-election campaign.
